The simulations were designed using principles based on physics education research and refined based on student interviews and classroom testing.Īdditional context for this material is provided by the ComPADRE-SERC Pedagogic Service. This resource is part of a large collection of free-access simulations by the Physics Education Technology Project (PhET) for use in STEM education from K-12 through graduate level. Note: This resource has been rewritten to HTML5, making it more versatile for use in all major browsers, mobile devices, and tablets. The second simulation lets users apply a filter to white light or to any wavelength of color and examine how the filter determines what colors pass through to the eyes. Use the slider to control the intensity of each color to see what colors will be perceived by human vision. The first simulation features three monochromatic lights in red, blue, and green. Overall, I would totally recommend the PhET app if you need to clearly explain or learn some basic scientific concepts, regardless of the language you speak. This model lets users interactively explore how the human eye interprets colors for various combinations of red, green, and blue light. I think this app consciously helps me becoming a well-rounded scientist. Developed by experts at the University of Colorado Boulder, PhET sims are used by millions of students every year. I can have intelligible conversations with people whose studies are not related to mine. I am able to quickly gain insight into a new field without having to do extensive literature reviews. I guess a picture is always better than a thousand words. I am a visual learner and the simulation environment allows me to easily digest the material I am learning. The app is also perfect for brushing up on stuff I have not seen in a while or for learning new material fast and easily. I am a native French speaker, and this app allows you to learn in different languages definitely one of my favorite features. This app is perfect to effectively and efficiently get an idea across. student in Aerospace, and I usually help my siblings work their homework. This app is definitely one of the coolest and more intuitive I have used. On behalf of the PhET team and the students whose lives you have helped improve - Thank you! Proceeds from the app support the development of more HTML5 sims. As accessible sims become available, they will be updated within the app. In addition, although we are currently working on improving the accessibility of our sims, most of the sims included in this app do not include keyboard navigation or screen reader access. Note: The app does not include PhET’s Java or Flash sims. STUDENTS: Tell your parents there’s an exciting app for learning science and math. TEACHERS: Your favorite HTML5 sims at your fingertips, even without internet access.ĪDMINISTRATORS: Optimized for school use, so your teachers will be seamlessly up to date. PARENTS: Engage your child in science and math discovery.
